I am beginning to try to trace the Robe family beyond my great grandfather, William Abram Robe (1845-1933), who arrived in Southern Michgan and settled in Galien Michigan. Family notes indicate that he was a Civil War Veteran. He is buried in the Galien Michigan cemetary and his marker, plus the markers of his daughters and wife are in good condition. He married Malinda Spilling, possibly the widowed wife of a minister. William and Matilda had two boys, Harry and William, who moved to Indiana. William, the son, had two sons, Dan and Paul. Harry settled near Westville Indiana and Married Effie King. My Father, Maurice Robe, was to son of Harry and Effie. This is all the information we presently have about the origins of this Robe family. A niece (catrobe@mindspring.com) found a William A. Robe with about the same dates from Illinois, suggesting he may have moved to Michigan from Illinois. Margaret Robe Summitt located a William Robe (1840) born of Josiah and Catherine Robe, probably born in Harrison, Delaware County, IN. |
