Descendants of David Robertson

Generation No. 1

1. DAVID8 ROBERTSON (JULIUS7, GEORGE6, ISRAEL5, NICHOLAS4, WILLIAM3, WILLIAM2 ROBERTSONII, WILLIAM1 ROBERTSON)1 was born 1795 in Buncombe Co., NC, and died July 19, 1863 in Jackson County, KY. He married (1) CHEROKEE INDIAN. He married (2) NANCY RUNYON 1835 in Buncombe Co., N.C., daughter of JOSEPH RUNYON and ELIZABETH SHEPHERD.

Notes for D
AVID ROBERTSON:
David Robinson left Long Branch on the Little Ivy Creek in Buncombe County, NC in the late 1830's. According to the 1850 Census of Owsley County Kentucky, the first child of Nancy Carter and David's was born approximately 1838 in N.C. Long Branch is about 3 or 4 miles from Mars Hill in what is now Madison County, North Carolina. The depositions of Adonijah and the information that Eddie Robinson has given me corresponds closely.

David and his two brothers, William and John came to Clay County together. John later went on to Cincinnati, OH. They settled in the area of Burning Springs, Clay County, then later moved into the Green Hall area. The Robinson Cemetery that David and Nancy are buried in, is on Hwy 30 approximately 1/2 mile from the Jackson/Owsley County line. This is supposed to be on the property that they lived on originally.

Jackson County was formed in 1858 from parts of Clay, Estill, Laurel, Madison, Owsley and Rockcastle Counties. Owsley was formed in 1843 from parts of Breathitt, Clay and Estill Counties.

Eddie Robinson visited Mars Hill, NC, and talked to several people who told him that David Robinson was married first to a full blooded Cherokee Indian. Even though Nancy Carter is old enough to be the mother of all the children, we are going to assume what Eddie found out is true. Mars Hill, NC has a population of approximately 1100 and over 100 households were headed by Robinson's.

After finding the below deed, David Robertson couldn't have died in 1863. He made the deed on Dececember 1, 1866, and the deed was recorded in 1867. So this requires more research on our part to find when he died. Once this death date is found, hopefully we will find who his parents are.
