Notes for Jacob Dufford: There is no proof that Jacob was a son of Philip, the emmigrant, except that the Book Early Germans" say that he was. He was registered as a ship passenger on the ship Robert and Alice the same as Philip. He was over 16 years of age and a male. There is no known record of his birth or baptism. Philip did not include him in his will, but did include Jacob's son George Stephen. It may be that he was left out of his father's will because he married an Indian.
There is also no record of his first wife's name. Accordin to Early Germans, we find that Jacob's first son was Matthias born 1738; George Stephen born 1741; and Jacob born 1745. Matthias, being born 1n 1738, must have been born of an earlier wife that is not mentioned and she must have died in child birth or on the ship. There were a number of Philip's children that died just before the voyage or on ship. It is possible that Jacob's wife died after giving birth to Matthias and as a result of the epidemic.
