Peter Wintermute (son of Johan Georg Windemuth and Margaret Elizabeth Bernhardten) was born 20 March 1752 in Stillwater, NJ, and died 18 March 1830 in b. Stillwater Cem.. He married Esther Rhodes on 28 December 1775.

On record at Newton it states that Peter served in the Revolutionary War.
Peter built the large stone house just across the road from the Big Spring. The date on the north gable indicates the date as 1791. The house was later owned by Martin R. Dennis, of Newark, NJ. He improved the grounds and made it his summer residence, having christened the place "Bonnie Brook"
