Tom's grandfather - born 1884 Almodavar, Portugal to British subjects John Robertson & Etta (Faulconer). The Robertsons returned to London in the late 1880's. The family could afford to send the children to boarding school. John died while Charles was between the ages of 8 and 10 - he was away at school and was not informed of his father's death right away. Charles left England in 1904 in part to avoid the Boer War & because he was not getting along with his step-father. According to family lore he sailed to Canada and misjudging distances from a map of N'ern America walked to Montana after taking a train west. He worked in a mercantile in Gold Butte, MT and married his boss' daughter Mabel Fey in 1910. Tom's dad, Walter was born 1917 in Conrad, MT the 2nd son. The family moved further west living in Wallace & Coeur d'Alene, ID in the 20's & finally settled in Mount Vernon, WA in 1930's working in retail, typewriter repair & dry cleaning business. Mabel died 1968 and Charles 1977 in Mt Vernon.
