Jana's great great great grandmother born 24 Jun 1842 Reinlie, Valdres, Norway to Kristen Sveinson Lien and Anne Mikkelsdtr. Sør-Lie. She married Ole Olson Espelien 23 Mar 1861 North Aurdal, Valdres, Norway and they had 12 children - five of them died as infants three of which took sick while immigrating to America in June 1882 - one was buried at sea and two were buried a few weeks later in Pope Co., Minnesota. One infant born a few months after their arrival to America lived only three months. A tough start in their new country. She died 08 Jan 1909 -her obituary in the Glenwood Herald June 15, 1909
Mrs. Ole Espelien passed away quietly at her home last Friday after many years of suffering from asthma. The deceased was 66 years of age at the time of her death and is survived by a husband, two sons and four daughters, viz: Ole and Albert Espelien, Mrs. Adam Olson of Benson, Mrs. Ben Evjen, Mrs. Thom Nelson and Mrs. Nels Benson of Langhei, who mourn the loss of faithful wife and loving mother. The funeral was held Wednesday from the West Zion church.
