Ole Espelien (b. 1836 Valdres d. 1916 MN) and Marit Kristensdtr. Nørdre Lie (b. 1842 Valdres, d. 1909 MN) are seated in the center. The Starbuck Times printed this photo of the Ole Espelien Sr. family in their April 4, 1974 edition. - The caption reads: THE OLE ESPELIEN FAMILY of Valdres, Norway, came to America in May 1882. Two sons, Ole Jr., and Knute arrived in 1880. Pictured are (back row) Anne (Mrs. Evjen), Dorte (Mrs. Adam Olson), Ole, Knute, Joren (Mrs. Tom Nelson). Front row, Albert, Ole Sr., Mari (Mother), Guri (Mrs. Nels Benson). Joren, the first born, died as an infant in Norway. Mikkel age 2 was buried at sea. Guri, 7 and Anders 4, died from diphtheria in June when the family arrived in America. The first year here, Anton age 3 died in March. Ole Sr., had been a traveling shoemaker. He also was a skraedart (tailor). Albert's suit was a product of his work.
