Notes for Lucille May Andrew: Lucille Andrew Johnson (May 21, 1916- April 1, 2005) Lucille May Andrew was born May 21, 1916 in Briercrest, Saskatchewan to Olga Espelien and Oscar Andrew. The Andrew family moved to Prince George, British Columbia in 1919. She attended school until eighth grade when she started her career working as a waitress. After Oscar died, her Mom married Ernie Carver, a loving grandfather to Olga's grandchildren. Lucy married Howard Johnson September 26, 1938 in Bellingham, Washington (they were residents of British Columbia) and they honeymooned in Seattle, little knowing they would one day live there. They had one daughter, Beverley Mae, born in Vancouver, BC. The Johnson family moved to Washington State in 1951 where Lucille continued to work as a waitress. One memorable customer was John Wayne whom she waited on when he was in Seattle often with his boating trips in the San Juan Islands. After Howard died in 1970, Lucy became a snowbird to Palm Springs California. She continued waitressing into her late 60's in California. In 1977, she moved to Homeland and Cathedral City, CA to be with Raymond Genereux until his death in 1994. She had been a resident of Long Beach since then until her death at Colonial Care Center April 1, 2005. Her family recalls that she loved to sing and dance, and as a cheerful, vivacious, bubbly redhead who loved a good joke, always had a twinkle in her eye. It seemed her goal was to never intentionally hurt anyone and to make all people feel her warmth and hospitality. She loved to entertain and often had a houseful of guests from northern BC [which had no television reception in the 1950's] who would come for week-long parties in Seattle during the World Series, coming to the family home each day to watch the television broadcasts and for the wonderful spreads of food for which Lucy was known. In addition to her parents, an infant brother and her husband, she is predeceased by her brother, Orville Andrew in 1967 and her sister, Cora Hill, in 1988. She is survived by her daughter, Bev (Dick) Hawes of Redmond, WA, brother, Ken (Rose) Andrew of Ottawa, Ontario, sister-in-law, Marj Andrew of Vancouver, BC, granddaughters, Jana (Tom) Robertson, Kristin (Bryan) Joyner, Sarah (Tim) Kimsey, and great grandchildren, along with cousins, a nephew, several nieces and their families. Donations in her memory are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association (225 N. Michigan Avenue, Suite 1700, Chicago, Illinois 60601-7633 or online at www.alz.org) or the American Cancer Society or your favorite charity.
