I have an ongoing quest for my Great Grandfather Nicholas Kopperson. He was apparently born in Sachsen, Germany in 1845 or 1846. He married Kunigunda Rommel at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Berlin, Ontario, Canada on March 13, 1870. Kunigunda died in childbirth on April 12, 1883. She had 9 children. On February 21, 1886, Nicholas married Anna Bernofski, supposedly at St, Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Berlin (now Kitchener), Ontario. They has 2 children, Annie and Alvin. Alvin was my Grandfather and was born in 1891. I do not know when Nicholas died, except that it was probably between 1891 (Alvin's birth) and 1912 when his wife Anna was listed with her son Alvin in the City Directory as the widow of Nicholas. I am looking for Nicholas' arrival in Canada. Did he come with his family (and who are they?) or did he emigrate from Germany on his own? How old was he? There is also some question about his true surname. Did he anglicize it or could it have originally been Kopp or Kopf? Another family member I am looking for is Elizabeth Kennedy, born June 7, 1820 in Inverness, Scotland. She married my Great-great grandfather, Benjamin Detweiler in Roseville or Berlin, Ontario on October 10, 1837 and died on March 12, 1900. I am looking for her family. Did she come to Canada with or without her parents? The only other clue I have is that her mother's maiden name was Cameron. If anyone has any information or clues about the above, I would be delighted to receive it. I also have information that I am willing to share about Moogk, Detweiler, Welz, and Kopperson/Koppeser. |
