2.  MATTHEW2 BRAY (ROBERT1) was born 25 August 1811 in Frodingham, Lincolnshire, England, and died 15 December 1894 in Winterton Lincolnshire (NBI).  He married (1) ISABELLA HOLGATE 24 March 1836 in Roxby Cum Risby,Lincoln,England, daughter of DARCY HOLGATE and HANNAH ALLISON.  She was born 16 January 1818 in Roxby Cum Risby,Lincoln,England, and died 7 October 1865 in Winterton Lincolnshire (NBI).  He married (2) MARY BARCLAY 6 November 1866 in Tongland, Kirkcudbright, Scotland, daughter of ALEXANDER BARCLAY and MARGARET BELL.  She was born Abt. 1827 in Sandy Braes Galloway,Scotland.

Florence was present at his death.He was Registered in the Glanford Brigg District Sub-district of Winterton in the County of Lincoln. He died with senectus and was a Retired Builder age 83 when died.

The word is senectus which is the latin for old

age.  I think it probably means that he died in his sleep, or just faded

away in apparent good health, as opposed to suffering from what we now

call Alzheimer's disease ( this is often used incorrectly now as it was

originally used to describe the early onset of symptoms of senility, at

the age of 50 or so).  Words like senectus were used often on death

certificates and coroners reports especially if there was no apparent

cause of death, such as an already diagnosed disease, right up to the

early 1960's.
