David Kennedy, 1st Earl of Cassillis was born before 1478. He was the son of John Kennedy, 2nd Lord Kennedy and Elizabeth Montgomerie.2 He married, firstly, Agnes Borthwick, daughter of Sir William Borthwick, 2nd Lord Borthwick and unknown wife, before July 1489.2 He married, secondly, Margaret Boyd, daughter of Thomas Boyd, 1st Earl of Arran and Mary Stewart, Princess of Scotland, on 9 August 1509, by dispensation.2 He died on 9 September 1513 in Flodden Field, Northumberland, England, killed in action.1
David Kennedy, 1st Earl of Cassillis was invested as a Knight on 29 January 1487/88 by King James III.2 He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] to King James IV.2 He succeeded to the title of 3rd Lord Kennedy [S., 1457] between 24 July 1508 and 13 May 1509.2 He was created 1st Earl of Cassillis [Scotland] on 23 October 1509.2 He fought in the Battle of Flodden on 9 September 1513.2

Gilbert Kennedy, 2nd Earl of Cassillis was born before 1500. He was the son of David Kennedy, 1st Earl of Cassillis and Agnes Borthwick.1 He married Lady Isabel Campbell, daughter of Archibald Campbell, 2nd Earl of Argyll and Elizabeth Stuart.1 He was murdered between 24 August 1527 and 30 August 1527 in Pow Burn, Prestwick, Ayrshire, Scotland, by an unknown person , killed by Sir Hugh Campbell of Loudon.1
Gilbert Kennedy, 2nd Earl of Cassillis succeeded to the title of 4th Lord Kennedy [S., 1457] on 9 September 1513. He succeeded to the title of 2nd Earl of Cassillis [S., 1509] on 9 September 1513.1 He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] to King James V.1 In 1525 he was tried for the murder of Martin Kennedy of Lochland in 1525, but was acquitted through the influence of his brother-in-law, the Earl of Argyll.1 In December 1526 he was a prisoner in the hands of the Douglas faction, after having joined the unsuccessful attempt of the Earl of Arran to rescue the young King James V.1
