| I have been researching the Robertson Family that came to Canada approximately 1820 as settlers in the Lanark, Ontario area. Robert Robertson we believe was born in 1811, and came to Canada with family to claim an original land grant. He eventually settled in Rosetta with his wife, Elizabeth Gemmell, and raised a family of 12. Robert was in the lumbering business, and at one point was in business with David Livingston, brother of the famous explorer, in the Robertson Livingston Lumber Company. He was also a merchant in Lanark, and supplied the lumber camps in the area. In 1870, he moved with 8 of his family to Port Robinson. There he purchased a 200 acre farm. He left 2 sons and a daughter in Lanark. John and Robert were merchants together until John's untimely early death. Anne Robertson married a Drysdale, another family of Lanark Merchants. Robert died in 1880 in Port Robinson. |
