This is a copy of a report sent to Gene Sanders from Thomas Lee Sanders, The copy is dated , September 29, 1924, from Law Division, I.C. 449236, Wilson Barnes Co. G, 5th Tennessee, Vol, Inf. To John P. Boyd, County Court of Tulsa, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Sir: Relative to your communication, I have to advise you that it s shown from a report from the records of the War Department that Wilson Barnes enlisted Febraury 27, 1862 in Co. G, 5th Tenn,. Vol. Inf. and was honorably discharged May 15, 1865. In the Soldier's family data circular filed in the bureau May 6, 1898, he alleges in part that his wife's name was Martha Dunn Barnes; that he was previouslymarried to Laving Ramsey who died at Harrison, Tennessee, in the year 1870. The following children were also given in the circular, Rhoda, Barnes March 15, 1855, Betty, April 20, 1857, Champ, June 12, 1859, William, June 25, 1863, Luke W., October 22, 1874, Louis, November, 1876, Joe, January 25, 1878, John, July 1, 1880, Simon April 4, 1882, Emeline, September 15, 1886.
Pension was first allowed the soldier September 25, 1889, and there is no record other than the above of any dependents he may have at that time.

The following letter is as follows, from the law firm of, Ford & Yarnell Attorneys At Law, Temple Court Bldg. Chattanouga, Tennessee, dated July 15, 1915. To: Mrs. L. W. Pace, Skiatook, Okla. Dear Madam: We Looked up the land in which you claim an intrest, an find it lays Northeast of Harrison in the ridges. It is probably worth $ 1.00 per acre, and this would make the whole track worth about $160.00.
Champ Barnes lives on this land. He came in here a few days ago and related to us what he claimed the fact were. He said his father owned this land years ago, and that when he left for Oklahoma, his mother was left in possession and she continued to live on the land and raised her children. Champfurther claimed that his father never was divorced from his mother either here or in Oklahoma, and that therefore his marriage out there was illegal, and therefore the children out there, born of the second marriage, have no interest in the landin question.
Of course, if your father married the second time, while his first wife was living, and without having obtained a divorce, the children of the second marriage would not inherit any part of the fathers property, unless a will was made. Now, you can ascertain whetherthere was a divorce granted in Oklahoma. If there was, you own a share in the estate here. If there was not a divorce, then of course, under Tennessee Laws, you have no interest.
Now this question will control the situation absolutely, and you can determine whether there is any use to pursue the matter further by ascertainig whether your father was ever divorced from his first wife. The records here don't show it, and if a divorce was ver granted, it was after the old man left here.
Your very truly,
Ford & Yarnell

Grandpa Wilson said that his wife Laving (Ramsey) died in 1870 but the 1880 Tennessee cecsus has her and the children.
