Roberts PO Box 3891 Charlottesville,VA 22903 | "Big John" Roberts, born January 1802, is our oldest known Roberts ancestor.Although there are two Madison (Bumcombe) County, North Carolina Roberts families predating John's birth, we are not sure to which, if either, he is related.We are trying to establish a link between Will Roberts (b. abt. 1730), John Roberts, Sr. and Big John.John Roberts, Sr. held several land grants in the area.According to Roberts still living in Madison Co., Big John inherited his land from his grandfather (possibly great grandfather) Will Roberts.Please contact me with anything you may find. During a visit to Madison Co. in July of 2002 both of Big John's home sites were located.The original house, built around 1830 near Big Laurel, was demolished in the early 1950's.The second house in Jupiter, completed in 1859, is still standing and apparently in good repair.According to family history these houses were among the first frame (non-log) houses built in western North Carolina.
