Selby was born in Snow Hill , Maryland he married Margaret (Hettie) Davis in 1802 to them were born 2 children: Thomas B. 11 Feb 1804 M. Rachel Oliver (Russel's sister) 7 June 1832; Catherine P. b 16 June 1806 m. James Thawenhill 14 Dec 1832.
After Hettie died, Selby married Elizabeth Richardson dau. of Whittenton & Molly Richardson. They were married in Worcester Co. MD 5 Jan 1808. To them were born 20 children. I can find records of 15...others may have died before they were named or Christined.
Their first son Benjamin was born 26 Dec 1808 in MD. Children were born almost every two years until 1834 when Charles their last (of record) was born in Clinton Co. OHIO. ( 1808, 1812, 1814, 1815, 1817, 1819, 1821, 1823, 1825, 1826, 1828, 1830, 1832, 1834).
Selby made a trip by boat to Cincinnati in 1818. He kept a journal , the first date in the journal was 16 Jan 1818. On the 22nd day he was on the Yothioganey River to Pitsburg (sic). On the 30th at Portsmouth; 31st at Manchester Command Station. June 4--at Lancaster.
The journal is hard to follow. I believe it is a journal of at least 2 trips, one by river, the other overland because all the locations don't fit along the river route.
Selby built a log cabin in 1818 in Clinton Co.. (Blanchester, OHIO) A brother of Selby's, Elihue, settled close by. Selby must have made several trips back to MD, Martha Jane was the first child born in OHIO in 1828. The cabin was on Fayetteville Road--(S on 133 out of Blanchester turn L on Fayetteville Rd.) His son of William R. built a two story house on that site in 1879-80. In turn, his son Elisha lived there. The house was torn down in Feb 1983.
Many of Selby's granchildren & great Grandchildren lived & died in Clinton CO. OHIO & Warren Co. OHIO.

Selby was the son of Sea Captain & a ships carpenter & farmer, Dennis.

From My grandmothers journal:
Selby Hudson son of Denis & Sarah Hudson was born Dec 23, 1780, was a sea captain & landed his boat at Snow Hill<Maryland. There he married ____Davis, to them were born 2 children. She died & he married Elizabeth Richeson. To this union were born 20 children. One of the 20 children was Sarah born March 17, 1814,
Selby Hudson sold out a Snow Hill & moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. While on the way to Cincinnati, he was robbed & landed with only 1 shilling (12 1/2 cents). When he landed he gave the Free mason sign which brought a man & friend to him, who took care of him until he could get himself together again. He built the first steam boat in Cincinnati. Selby was a ship carpenter by trade.
