The old Grove Street Cemetery in Danville, established in 1830, did not belong to the city, but was owned by private citizens. Casper Rodenhizer was one of these and his father, John, was buried there in 1862. The location of his grave is not known as no records were kept of the sections owned by various citizens, but a daughter of Casper’s Mr. Pattie Rodenhizer Corbin, remembered his burial and grave her recollections of him a short time before her death in 1935. When the history of the cemetery was written by Miss Mack in 1930, descendants of people buried there were asked to give information about them when no maker could be found. Mr. E. W. Myers, furnished forty-markers for unnamed graves, but the Rodenhizer descendants overlooked this; however, in 1957, Miss. Mack gave this compiler permission to add the following statement to the list of persons buried in Grove Street Cemetery and also to add it to the copy which is in Danville’s Public Library:

Rodenhizer ---- John, son of John and Margaret Muller, born in York County, Penn. Died June 20, 1872.

Bernie,

Once again, I thank you for all the wonderful data you sent. It was
interesting that your records mentioned John Prutzman as Protzman is
another of my Western Maryland surnames.

I am using Netscape 3 right now.

You said John Rodenizer and Hannah Wilhide had a son named Daniel and a
daughter who married Manuel Miller. Can you supply more data on them -
ie: birth dates and places. The only children I have for them were twin
girls which I mentioned over the phone. They were Mary and Anne Rebecca,
born 19 Aug 1828 in Graceham, Frederick, Maryland. They were baptised
26 Aug 1828 in the Moravian Church, Graceham. Source Film #20,503
Moravian Families Graceham, Md 1759-1871.

Repeating what I said the other night about John Rodenizer, born 1775.
When comparing dates and places along with other bits and pieces, I
believe we are half cousins. Here's the time line:

John md Anna Maria Wilhide abt 1807 [Note: If your date of birth is
correct, he would have been 32 years old. I'm thinking he was probably
more likely 22 years old.] They had John, my direct ancestor, 03 Apr
1808 and baptised 08 May 1808 in Graceham. As I've not been able to
find any other mention of Anna Maria, she probably died shortly
thereafter.

John then md Elizabeth Carson 05 Jun 1811 according to Frederick County
marr rec. They had Casper, b 04 Jun 1812 and baptized 02 Aug 1812
according to records of St. John Evan. Lutheran Church in Creagerstown,
Frederick, Md. Then they had John baptized 27 Mar 1814 at same church.
About 1816 they had Mary Ann [no baptism record found] She md Thomas
Fraley or Frohlich 08 Jun 1840 in Graceham. Elizabeth Carson died abt
1820.

John then md Hannah Wilhide, widow of William Morehead 27 Dec 1827 in
Graceham. They had the twin girls mentioned above in 1828.
