Notes for George Lemons:
The oldest church in Rockingham County, NC, active by7 1759. Traditions says British dead were buried there during the Revolution. Present church built in 1844. Some years ago a tombstone dated 1739 was found in the cemetery. There are no early Lemons tombstones but George Lemons was a witness to the first recorded church deed in 1786. The oldest church records date to 1830. Some of the first Lemons mentioned in the church records are: Margaret Lemons in 1832, Nancy, Sally and Mary Lemons in 1833, and Elizaabeth Lemons in 1837.
