Will Of Thomas Rogers
In the Name of God Amen.I Thomas Rogers of the County of New Hanover and Province of North Carolina being sick & weak in body but in my perfect sences and mindful of the mortality of man thought to make this my Last will & Testament & first then I commend my soul to God who gave it & my Body to be intered at the discression of my friend in sure & certain hope of the resurrection at the Last day according to the promises of the Gospel.
Item 1st - After all my Lawfull Debt is paid I give & bequeath unto my two beloved sons Thomas & James Rogers all & singular my real estate equally Divided between them (___?) my old platation my Mill Land & apurtences & all other Lands in my possession which viz. are to possess at their arrival at the age of twenty one years & as my son Thomas is ten years older than James he is to possess his own part of the Mill & Lands but not to have it divided until James arrives at full age.
Item 2 - I Give and Bequeath unto my beloved Daughters Mary Simpson, Ann Rogers, Therasa, Sarah, Elizabeth, Celiah & Tabitha Rogers all & singular my movable estate Viz. Negroes, cattle of all sorts & furniture only observing tis my desire that my Negro girl Cloe be given to my Daughter Mary & Venus to my Daughter Therasa which Negroes as to be valued & if more than their equal part they then are to (___?) the over (____?) to the Estate & if less and equal portion is to be made good to them.
Item 3 - I give & Bequeath unto my beloved Wife Elizabeth Rogers During her life one feather bed & furniture & one Negro Wench also a sufficient quantity of Land for a plantation and some convessien to plant & my Land where it will be least prejudicial to my sons to be Directed by executors & after her Death to be returned The Land to my Sons as before Directed & the Negroes & Bed & furniture to my Daughters.
Item 4th - I leave all the Management of my Estate unto Trusty friends viz. I leave my beloved wife Elizabeth Rogers Executrix & to have the sole management of all my estates by & with the advice of Frederick Simpson Thomas Devane and Timothy Bloodworth whom I appoint executors to assist my wife by theire counsil & advice & perticular to act in Dividing Trustly & equitabley all my estate between my children observing my direction as above as near as possible tho not to be exactly confined thereby but to pursue Imperial Justice in the division of my estate between my children who is to be properly educated according to their abilitys & receive their Estates when at Lawfull age.In witness whereof I have herewith set my hand and seal this 16th Day of July 1773.
