Notes for George Alfred Atwell: George Alfred Atwell was born 19th April, 1884. Son of Stephen and Emma of Templars, South Australia. He came to Victoria with his parents at the age of seven. His father farmed land near Galaquil until about 1910. Galaquil is near Beulah. When land was opened up for selection at Pella, his father selected a block and moved there. This block is south of the Pella Church. George stayed on at Galaquil, farming the land until 1912, when he shifted to Rainbow. He share-farmed different farms until retiring during the WW2. He also worked for his brother, Walter, who was a road contractor. On retiring he lived in and near Rainbow. He was a very keen gardener. On 23rd September, 1909, George married Amy Eleanor Rogers of Galaquil East. Eleanor was Charlie Rogers sister, whom George's sister, Edith married. They had 12 children, 10 boys and 2 girls. Two of the boys, Sydney and Raymond, died in infancy during WW1.
