This Butterfield Family Line started in Oregon and slowly migrated to California. For many years gold, copper, and quartz mining was the main income. When they settled in California farming and cattle raising became a second income.

In 1927 Fred Butterfield and Zeora Thomas met in San Francisco, CA where Zeora was attending school. Fred followed Zeora back to her families homesteas in Hornitos (Quartzburg) CA. While Fred perferred to farm he also worked in some of the surrounding mines. Zeora's father, William Thomas also mined a quartz claim he patented.

Family stories have been told that this line of Butterfield's are related to John Butterfield the owner/operator of the Butterfield Overland Stage Coach. This is to still be proved or disproved.

There is a lot of fun and interesting family history. Stories were told to me of the old days by my grandmother Zeora Thomas Butterfield. I hope to continue her legacy by sharing those stories.
