| The research into Kathleen Koontz's genealogy(paternal)officially began in 1976 in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The collection of letters, photos, journals, began decades earlier by her and other family members, aided that research immensely. Add to that a rich base of oral memories which Kathleen recalled vividly throughout her long life, many of which were able to be documented through this subsequent research. Once this huge amount of material was organized, the project began. As this was years prior to the internet, making real progress was slow and often frustrating. But when those few tantalizing records arrived and began to confirm dates, events and correct long held beliefs, the motivation to continue would be renewed. An interesting fact surfaced through census and birth/baptismal records that the surname was originally Kuntz being changed to Koontz with the birth of Henry Koontz, 1765. The arrival of a computer, which accelerated the research by leaps and bounds, often provided the 'proofs' always needed in this type of project. However the research continues, it is a work in progress. Our Maryland Branch ancestor's stories continue to reveal themselves as more pages are added to the book. |
