Stanley Elmer Allen was born in Cambridge while his father was working for an uncle's plumbing business. He went to the Essex Falls Elementary School for eight years and began the ninth grade at Hamilton High School. He had to drop out to work and support his sister Lena after her husband's death in the flu epidemic of 1918. Stanley moved to Westborough at age fifteen to work in a leather factory, his sister helped support her three children by playing the player piano for silent movies. Later he returned home to work for the town of Hamilton and for the Charles Tainter estate, and the Palmer estate as a gardener. During WW1 he was asked to dig trenches along the river of the Tainter estate to protect against invading Germans. He began to work for the United Shoe August 7, 1927. Stanley worked for 41 years as a glazier at the United Shoe Manufacturing Company in Beverly, Massachusetts.
