This effort is dedicated to the on-going documentation of my paternal ancestors, Lorenz and Catherine Dilger, who immigrated in 1856. To the best of my knowledge Lorenz, Catherine and 9 or their 11 children left their homestead in the Black Forest area of Germany and departed from Le Havre, France on the USS Guttenburg in the fall of 1856. They arrived in the port of New Orleans, Louisiana and travelled north to Santa Claus, Indiana. Eight days later Lorenz Dilger passed away, leaving Catherine and their 9 children to begin a new life in America. The other 2 children had died prior to the family leaving Germany.

Lorenz and Catherine Dilger are both buried at St. Boniface cemetary in Fulda, Indiana. Many of their descendants are still living in Indiana, yet many many more reside across the United States. If you believe that you descend from Lorenz and Catherine Dilger, I would like to hear from you.
