My family tree originates in Oklahoma where I was born. My father was an Underwood, there are Vaughns which made the run of 89. Campbells, Barnes and Johnson's. My mother was a Chinnis and there are Goodwin's, French's,Mullins, Wilson's Leggett's, Pounds and Griner's.Both my grandparents on mother's side were born in Texas and from there back to Mississippi,Alabama, Georgia, the Carolina's and Virginia.
My father's family was in Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri& Illinois. Some migrated through Texas then Oklahoma.
My husbands family is also included. His father was a Rollins, there are Townsley's, Cooper's and Lawrence's. His mother was a Maritt/Merrett/Merrit and there are Smith's, Browder's, Coffey's and Graves and Mayfields back to The Rev. Richard Buck in Jamestown. The Rollins' as far back as we can go were in the Carolina's and traveled by oxcart to Georgia and participated in the gold lottery. From there the next stop was Texas where some still are and then to Oklahoma. The Maritt's were in Virginia as well as the Browder's and Coffey's, through Tennessee and into Missouri and finally Oklahoma.
This site is devoted to my mother Esta Chinnis, my father Harvey Underwood, my husband's mother Maggie Ella Maritt and my husband's father William Jefferson Rollins. This is their story and from whence they came. We have traced them back to England, France, Ireland and some are Native American. All blended together this is how we came to be.
I along with several other researchers have worked on the Pounds and Roberts families so these will be my main trees. I will hope with this update someone will find something we have not been able to and contact me. We have worked diligently for several years together on these families. There is much updated information on these two families.
I have also published a book. There are many, many surnames in it. Much is documented, much is not. You will find many surnames as we have been in the south for well over 300 years. For many other surnames please look at my book on this site.
I sat down about 40 years ago with my husband's great aunt always called "Allie Smith" even though that was her maiden name and made a family tree which stayed put away for 25 years. About 30 years ago I inherited a lot of old family pictures and began to wonder about these people. I got out the "family tree" and began searching. Every item on that "tree" proved to be true. She was the "family historian" and I certainly wish I had asked her more. I have spent about thirty years picking every brain I could. One of the ones I found most interesting was that I am the gggggrandaugher of Robert Evans Griner who owned the "Grinder's Inn" where Lewis Meriwether died. That is an interesting story in itself.
I urge anyone interested in their family history to sit down today and ask questions while there is someone to ask. We wait, then one day they are all gone and so is your family lore.
I have put in some of my references and I am working on more. I am sure there are mistakes. In the world of genealogy all you can be sure of is there are lots of mistakes to be made. Keep an open mind as you are sure to find things that will need to be altered or even deleted.
Disclaimer: Not all of this information is my research and much is unproven.A lot of my own research is proven back to the 1700's.Much comes from other reseachers which I have not tried to prove or disprove. Most all of the pre 1700's comes from the LDS site and I have not tried to disprove or prove any of it.If any of this information is helpful to you please use it to try and further your own ancestry but remember to validate your own information.
Ron Goodwin's Familytreemaker site as well as Dawna Vickers/Vicars Familytreemaker site will provide you with more data as well as references as you get beyond Jonathan Vicars and David Goodwin. Their web sites are linked to help you. The book by Lillie
