6. DANIEL³ MCDOUGALD (ARCHIBALD², DANIEL¹) was born April 21, 1844 in Meridian, Lauderdale County, Mississippi, and died February 24, 1905 in Burke, Angelina County, Texas. He married SARAH C. STELL December 06, 1866 in Hamburg, Ashley County, Arkansas, daughter of GEORGE STELL and ELIZABETH RUNNELS.

      Daniel (Dan) McDougald was born near Meridian, Lauderdale County, Mississippi on April 21 1844. He was one of thirteen children born to Archibald McDougald and Sarah Gilmore. (See story on the family of Archibald McDougald.) when the family moved to Ashley county and settled in the Bearhouse Township, they did not ring the slaves they had owned in Mississippi. the country was moving toward on the slavery question and it is in that era that Dan grew to manhood.
      Dan enlisted in the Confederate Army 3 May 1862 at Monticello, Arkansas. He was discharged due to illness 16 August 1862. On 1 March 1863 he re-enlisted and served approximately two years before being wounded and leaving the service.
      On 6 December 1866 Dan married a young school teacher, Sarah C. Stell (b. 1 October 1844, daughter of George W. Stell and Elizabeth Runnels), at the home of Robert J. Stell, Sarah's brother. They settled in the Berea community and started a family that grew to include ten children. They were John Wesley (3 January 1868, m. Margaret Lenora Bain 8 March 1889, d. 22 August 1930); William Bunyan (b. 7 September 1869, d. 25 March 1894): Robert Joseph (b. 24 August 1871, d. 9 August 1897); Frances Elmira (b. 4 September 1873, m. J. H. Pittman about 1887/88, d. 23 July 1896); Seleta Elizabeth (b. 15 October 1875, m. J. H. Pittman 3 November 1896); Archie Newton (b. 2 August 1878, m. Louisa J. Ray 10 September 1898, d. 27 June 1962); Minnie Lue (b. 24 September 1880, d. 30 September 1882); Jesse Thomas (b. 15 January 1883, d. 29 January 1895); Laura Eulalie (b.27 December 1885, m. Ed. Hines 19 September 1910, d. about 1930); and Daniel Simpson (b. 4 May 1888, d. 7 March 1919 of pneumonia while serving in World War I.
      During the late 1890's, seeking to increase his fortunes, Dan began his long walk from Ashley County to the home of relatives in Grapeland, Texas. Eighteen months later he had saved enough money to have his family join him. They moved to Trinity County, Texas where Dan found work in a sawmill and this was the type of work he would continue throughout his life.
      His oldest son, John Wesley, did not accompany the family on the move to Texas. Family members may recall fondly that when John Wesley's younger brother, Archie Newton, visited in Ashley County it was always an occasion for a Texas-style barbecue with "Uncle Archie" in charge.
      Daniel died 24 February 1905 in Burke, Angelina County, Texas, where he is buried in Bryan's Chapel Cemetery. Sarah died 11 July 1910 and is buried at Mount Zion Cemetery in Trinity County, Texas.

      Bryant McDougald was one of the thirteen children born to Archibald McDougald and Sarah Gilmore. Bryant was born 12 July 1851 in Lauderdale County, Mississippi and moved with his family to Ashley County about 1858. (See story of the family of Archibald McDougald.)
      Bryant married flora Haseltine Buckhanan (Buchanan) 15 December 1870. Their children were Laura Elizabeth (b. 15 October 1871, m. John Hurleston Johnson 22 December 1892, dl. 1 July 1898); Eliza Virginia (b. 2 April 1873, m. Robert R. Riley 2 January 1892); Jesse Columbus (b. 16 November 1874, d. 21 July 1878); Erastus (b. 14 February 1877); Dora Dennard (b. 16 July 1880, m. Sam Lane 15 December 1897); Zimra (b. 28 December, 1884, d. 1950); Ada Ethel b. 8 October 1887, m. Barton Smith 5 October 1913, d. 30 January 1923); and Georgia (b. November 1884, d. August 1913 just before she was to have been married).
      Bryant McDougald died 17 March 180 and his wife, Flora Hazeltine, died 5 September 1907. She is buried at Hamburg.

10. THOMAS ALLEN³ MCDOUGALD (ARCHIBALD², DANIEL¹) was born January 26, 1854 in Lauderdale County, Mississippi, and died January 29, 1912 in North Crossett, Ashley County, Arkansas. He married (1) ELIZABETH HEWING. He married (2) EMMA POWELL March 26, 1881 in Ashley County, Arkansas.

      Thomas Allen McDougald was born 26 January about 1854 in Mississippi to Archibald McDougald and Sarah Gilmore. He had a twin brother named William L. (See story on the family of Archibald McDougald)
      Thomas Allen married Emma Powell 26 March 1881. She was the mother of all his children. His second wife was Elizabeth Hewing.
      The children of Thomas Allen and Emma were Alice May ( b. 7 November 1883, m. Isaac Tipton Naff 17 September 1902, d. 17 April 1983); Walter Wesley (b. 31 March 1886, m. Anna Lou Beall, d. 19 August 1953); Thomas Earnest (b. 14 January 1888, m. Maymie Ellen Walker 24 September 1916, d. 14 November 1972); Wiley Hunter (b. 19 August 1890, d. 11 September 1901); Lela Maude (b. 11 April 1893, m. Van Buren Watson, d. 22 February 1890); Willie B. (b. 10 June 1895, m. Myrtle M. Willis, dl. 18 May 1987); and Alaska (b. 28 January about 1894-1898, d. 2 October 1898).
      Thomas Allen and Emma lived first in the Berea community but later moved to West Crossett where he farmed. His son, Willie and Earnest, worked at the sawmill. Earnest moved to Malvern in the late 1930's. Willie stayed in Crossett where he did carpenter work. Another son, Walter McDougald, lived on the McDougald homeplace at West Crossett until 1935 when he moved to Hamburg.
      Thomas Allen died 29 January 1912 and is buried in the Simms Cemetery at North Crossett. His first wife, Emma, died 28 July 1898 and is buried in the Old Central Cemetery at Hamburg.
