Ross & Moates Families.
I am basically researching the family of Samuel Ross who first appeared in the Fannin County, GA. census in 1840. He married Violet Brock in 1838, but he likley had a family in South Carolina before he came to Fannin County. A Samuel Ross appears in the Charleston, SC. census in 1830 and he does not appear in Charleston in 1840. It is my belief that these are the same person as the death certificate of his son George Washington states that Samuel was born in South Carolina. I have no information of him prior to 1830. Also, my ancestors include the George Dillard families. George Dillard came to Virgina in the 1600's. Several of his descendants are included in my information. The family name of Dillard included in the roots of Charles Ross was changed to Davis circa 1898. The Moates, the family of Edna Moates Ross also has it's roots in South Carolina. Noah Moates moved from South Carolina to Pike County Alabama in the early 1800's. He later moved to Walton County, Florida. The Campbell family from the Isle of Skye of Scotland were ancestors of Edna. They came to Florida via North Carolina. Also, the Day family of Florida and originally from South Carolina and Alabama are ancesters of Edna. |
