This family tree comprises the Descendants of Daniel Ross, who moved from Greenville County South Carolina to Carroll County Tennessee, about 1828. Daniel made the migration with three of his sisters and their families.

The GEDCOM Tree includes all descendants of James Ross (Daniel's father). Once in the tree, use the search option to find a particular person. Right click on the box for that person and select details to get more information on the person.

The book on this Home Page includes information on more than 15,000 ancestors. It is 415 pages long, but contains a table of contents, outline descendant tree, register (genealogy) report, and an index. It should not be overly difficult to navigate.

NOTE: One very important point should be made about this tree, regarding the contributions of others. Literally hundreds of persons have provided input and actual data contained in the tree. Not only are there too many to remember in order to give them credit for their contribution, but the list would be too long to post. However, there is one person to whom I owe a debt of gratitude. Jerry McDaniel has amassed probably hundreds of thousands of names in numerous family trees. That data is on the internet (www.the-watchers.com), but Jerry graciously allowed me to use his entire database. More than half of the 15,000 people on this family tree came from Jerry's files. THANK YOU VERY MUCH, JERRY!

  • GEDCOM Tree of John Ross and Descendants (3047 KB)

Family Photos

  • Charles Edward Ross Sr. in 2003 (100 KB)
This photo was taken in the Fall of 2003, in Nashville, Tennessee. Others have asked me what I am holding in my hand. It is a camera, not a gun as some have believed.
  • Palestine (Methodist) Church in Carroll County TN (25 KB)
It is believed this church was built well before 1850, on what was probably the land of Daniel Ross. It is entirely possible that Daniel helped build the church. He was without doubt the first person buried in the adjoining cemetery.
  • Three generations of Rosses in Palestine Cemetery (30 KB)
Currently, four generations of Rosses are buried at Palestine. Two other generations have reserved plots in the cemetery -- making six generations when those plots are used -- but not in the near future we pray. L to R: John Abner and wife, William A. and wife, and Daniel and wife.
