Comment: Charles A. Roswell re-married late in life to Ruth Jewel McDaniels, in 1980. The family believes it was because he knew she was terminally ill with cancer at the time. Ruth was born in Buckskin, Arizona and died January 10, 1982. She had two sons - John and Michael from her previous marriage. She was an elementary school teacher, and liked grades 3-5 the best. She died of cancer, complicated by strokes. She is buried at Greenwood cemetary in San Diego.

At his son's request, Charles A. Roswell wrote down, "My work history, as I remember it", dated June 16, 1990:
"Year 1921 & 1922 - My father was rich in those days. My father had two fifty-foot lots on Davidson Avenue (Detroit) where he raised yellow wax beans. My first job was pulling weeds, and hoeing between rows when I was nine years old. I was paid 10 cents to spend, and 25 cents in my bank. Year 1923 - When I was 11 years old I sold newspapers. Newspapers were 1 cent each and Sunday papers 5 cents. If you sold 2 papers you made 1 cent, and 2 cents for each Sunday paper. Dempsey was the champion fighter that year. Between 1923 and 1929, from the time I was 12 years old till I was 16 or 17 - I sold popcorn at a stand in front of a theater, was an usher in the theater, and cleaned the show on Saturday and Sunday mornings for free passes. Worked at a soda fountain (Soda Jerk), was a parking lot attendant, and worked summers on the "Tashmott boat" on the Great Lakes selling ginger ale, and as a cabin watch 7 A.M. to 11 P.M. with 2 hours off at 2 P.M. and for meals. Between 1930 and 1932 - The Depression. Worked 1 day, 12 hours for $1.00. Worked on parking lot (my own). Sold bumper guards and worked as a doorman in a blind pig (Speakeasy) during Prohibition. Year 1933 - First real job, paid 32 cents an hour working on wheels at Cheverolet Gear and Axle. I lied to get the job, told them I had worked on wheels at other wheel companies. Almost got fired, but kept job, putting spokes in wire wheels, and later worked on the knee action line. Worked for about 9 months. From 1933 to 1946 - Worked as a gas station attendant. Kept books for Gas Station and 2 other small stores for $25.00 each a month. Got a job at Fisher Body General Motors, 6 months on, 6 months off. Kept job in Gas Station and worked on W.P.A. (Work Projects Administration) when not working at Fisher Body. I sometimes held three jobs at once. Also worked at Cadillac Motors. Most jobs were for short periods. While at Fisher Body I held about 20 different classifications. Started as floor helper, was set -up man, ran a lathe, grinder, milling machine, boring mill, drill press, layout man, etc. Ended up as a jig and fixture builder. During this time I also worked for a few Job Shops, one as a superintendant and estimator, one as a paymaster, and one as a boring machine operator. I worked on again, off again at Fisher Body until 1950. When I was off at Fisher Body I worked for Colonial Broach Corporation, as a Cost Accountant. Also worked evenings in a wood shop making bench tops and other wood products. From 1950 until 1975 - (Came to California in 1950) - Worked at Consolidated Aircraft (later became Convair and General Dynamics). Laid off three times. While I was laid off at General Dynamics I worked at Tyce Engineering in Chula Vista; California General in Vista; and Straza Engineering in El Cajon as an Estimator. Started at Consolidated as a Planner, was made a Tool and Operations Planner, and ended up as a Manufacturing Engineer. P.S. - Almost forgot I owned a Gas Station and a bakery route during the 1930s."

We wrote all through the war."
