Census: 1900 Federal Census, City of Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. Volume 83, Enumeration District 127, Sheet 15, Line 5. Info from Census:
- Name: Alexander Czarnecki
- Head of Household
- Born February 1852, 48 years old
- Married 21 years
- Born in Germany
- Father and Mother both born in Germany
- Immigrated to United States in 1882 (in U.S. for 18 years)
- Is naturalized citizen
- Occupation: Laborer (Florist)
- Can read, write, and speak English
- Rents his home
Could not locate in the 1880 Federal Census Soundex for Michigan.
Also listed on his daughter Elizabeth's death certificate, and in Elizabeth's record in the 1920 Federal Census, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. Volume105, Enumeration District 128, Sheet 6, Line 58. She said that both her father and mother were born in Germany, and German was their native language.
Need verification of his death date. The current death date is from a sketch by Katherine Tucker (daughter) of her father's face in the shape of a pipe, with his name and birth and death dates of "1851-1942" written below it.
I have been unable to locate Alexander's death certificate. Two searches have been made:
- February,1994 - sent request to the Michigan Dept of Health, years 1941-1943. No records found. I realized later that I misspelled his name as "Andrew" on the request.
- September, 1998 - sent another request to the MI Dept. of Community Health, for 1941-1943. No records found.
- Two possibllities: He did not die in the year that his daughter Katherine wrote on her sketch of her father (see above), or Alexander is not his first name (meaning his death certifcate is filed under his correct first name)

Census: 1900 Federal Census, City of Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. Volume 83, Enumeration District 127, Sheet 15, Line 6. Enumerated with Alexander Czarnecki. Info from Census:
- Name: Antonia Czarnecki
- Wife of Alexander Czarnecki
- Born December 1857, 42 years old
- Born in Germany
- Father and Mother both born in Germany
- Married 21 years
- Mother of 5 children, all 5 still alive
- Immigrated to United States in 1882 (in U.S. for 18 years)
- Can read, write, and speak English
Her maiden name needs verification. "Anna Capashinski" is the best recollection of Charles Alexander and Gilbert Francis Roswell (grandsons). On the death certificate of Elizabeth Czarnecke (daughter), the mother's name was initially written "Unknown", but was crossed out and "Antonia Kapufhnfpe" printed clearly above. This spelling of a German last name seems awkward. On the death certificate of Katherine Tucker (daughter), the mother's maiden name is "Antoinette Kopes".
Birthplace of Germany is also verified from her daughter Elizabeth's death certificate, and from Elizabeth's record in the 1920 Federal Census, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. Volume105, Enumeration District 128, Sheet 6, Line 58. This states that both her father and mother were born in Germany, and German was their native language.

Note that her first name is reported as "Antonia" on the 1900 Federal Census. It is likely that Katherine was her middle name.
The birth month and year matches her death certificate, and her other siblings listed on the census are all accounted for.
Also note the spelling of her maiden name, "Czarnecki" on the census, versus "Czarnecke" on her death certificate.

Note on burial location on death certificate: She is actually buried at Clinton Grove cemetary, in the Roswell family plot purchased by Charles E. Roswell. This is verified by photos of the gravestone taken by Charles A. Roswell (son). Perhaps Mt. Olivet was bought out or changed its name to Clinton Grove cemetary, or at some point she was moved
- Undertaker: Kafis and Huser. Address is "City" (assume Detroit)
- Cause of death: Pernicious Anaemia (another spelling of anemia). Webster's dictionary has this definition: "a severe anemia caused by the diminution or absence of stomach acid secretion, with consequent failure of the gastric mucosa to secrete the intrinsic factor necessary for the absorption of vitamin B-12, characterized by a great reduction in the number of red blood cells". This disease is easily curable today.

Oral history: Identified by both Charles and Gilbert Roswell (grand-nephews) as a sister of their mother, Elizabeth Czarnecke.
