I am seeking information about the Rose family who lived in Sharpstone, Freshford, Somerset, England in the 1800s. The earliest name I have is a James ROSE (Snr.), clothworker, who would have been born in the late 1700s or early 1800s. He had at least two children:

i. Caroline ROSE, who married a Mr BLACK (first name unknown)

ii. James ROSE (Jr.) (1827-1876), schoolmaster, who married Catherine BRACE (1816-1898), daughter of Thomas BRACE.

The three surviving sons of James (Jr.) and Catherine ROSE were:

1. Octavius Clark ROSE (b. 1851)

2. Frederick Raymond ROSE (1853-1918), who married Martha Maria LIPPIATT (1855-1917), daughter of John LIPPIATT (d. bef.1881) and Ann ROSE (b. 1828).

3. Herbert Wesley ROSE (b. 1855), watchmaker, who married Christiana (b. 1854, maiden surname unknown). They had at least two children, Mable B. ROSE (b. 1881) and Catherine Kate ROSE (1883-1898).

Frederick and Martha ROSE (my great-great-grandparents) emigrated to South Africa and subsequently to New Zealand in the 1880s.

If you have any information about these people I'd be pleased to hear from you.
