Family legend states that Bennett "Frozen Foot" Doing came from Wales in 1760 and fought with Gen'l George Washington at Valley Forge where he suffered frost bite resulting in the amputation of both feet and the knickname "Frozen Foot" His records have been seen in the National Archives. He enlisted in Richmond. Bennett received "6 3/4 dol" per month for his services. A Francis Doingfought with the Continental Army a year before Bennett and received his pay in pounds.
