| Researching Samuel S. Washburn who was in Arkansas and Missouri before coming to Texas in 1836 with his wife Mary Elizabeth "Polly," and children. Was killed by Indians in 1838 in Grayson County, Texas. After his death, Mary took most of the children back to Sugar Creek area of Arkansas where they remained until about 1850, when they returned to Texas and settled the 1,280 acres that Samuel had been granted in Grayson County. Was often found with his brother James W. Washburn. Father may have been Reuben Washburn, son of John Washburn of Culpepper County, Virginia. Also, Samuel M. McGlothlin who married Margaret Hendrix, daughter of John Hendrix, in Kansas City, Missouri in 1845 and then came to Grayson County Texas as part of the Peters' Colony. Was a blacksmith by trade. Settled in Sherman area. Killed in 1860 in a hunting accident. Brothers who also came to Texas were Smith, William, and George W. McGlothlin. Would like to hear from anyone researching either of these families. Happy to share my information. |
