| HI! Glad you stopped by!My name is JOAN ROSE, of Oklahoma, widow of ROBERT F. ROSE of Oklahoma and Texas and daughter of JOSEPH O. O'BRIEN of New York and Texas and MARY LILLIAN WILKINSON of Texas.I also am mother of Robert David Rose, Katy Mitchell and Brien Edward Rose, all of Tulsa County, Oklahoma. these branches now include seven grandchildren and three darling great-grandbabies!!!My dad was grandson of four Irish Potato Famine immigrants who landed in upstate New York in the Olean-Cuba-Limestone area.. I have little on their early lives than this: PATRICK O'BRIEN and MARY NAHILl of County Clare and MICHAEL SHEA of County Kerry and ELLEN MCCARTHY of County Cork.I even made a three-week trip to Ireland, took a course in Irish genealogy at the University of Limericak and still came up with nothing much. (Did you ever try to find a Patrick O'Brien in Ireland?)My mom, however, was the daughter of hardy pioneer stock whose earliest lines that I have been able to pinpoint were all Scotch-Irish settlers of the mid-18th Century, and probably even earlier than that. In fact, I am not even sure who the original immigrant on each line is. And of course, being Scotch-Irish, they are Southern all the way -- Virginia, North and South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Lousiana and eventually Texas, some predating statehood there. They were a restless bunch until they reached Texas!!Some of these names are: WILKINSON, SHARP, ELLISON, MCcLELLAN, HENDERSON, FOSTER, VALENTINE, ANDERSON. And some, of course, are unknown, which makes the search continually challenging and fun.The ROSE lline goes all the way back to the Norman HUGH de ROSE who came to the British Isles with (who else?) William the Conqueror. The Rose clan was established at Kilravock Castle near Inverness, Scotland, and there they live until this day. My father in law was GEORGE EDWARD ROSE, son of FRANKLINL EDWARD ROSE of Indiana and Texas. His Rose line in the U.S. goes back to about 1800 on the Western Reserve.My mother in law was VONA LANE of Texas, daughter of ROBERT EUGENE LANE AND JALY LEACH of Texas. Her family lines also extend back to Virginia and early Scotch-Irish settlers of the South. She was a member of Colonial Dames of America and Daughters of the American Revolution.In coming weeks I shall post some of these family lines.
