I am researching the Ross Family from George Ross who was born in Scotland about 1629, captured by Oliver Cromwell's forces and deported to New England about 1650, served as an indentured slave at New Haven Colony (New Haven, CT) and about 1670 moved to Elizabeth, NJ. In 1838, one of his ancestors, named Simeon Ross moved from Rahway, NJ to White Hall, IL and his son, also named Simeon became a farmer in MO. In about 1929, his grandson, my father who couldn't find a job upon graduating from high school decided to hitch-hike rides to Oregon where he spent the rest of his life, dying there in 1983. His stories about this trip from MO to OR are what got me interested in researching my family. I have a few weak links which I would appreciate help in shoring up. |
