Walter Dickerson (b. June 11, 1763, d. October 08, 1855)
Walter Dickerson was born June 11, 1763 in Roxbury Twp. Morris, New Jersey, and died October 08, 1855 in Vigo Co.. He married (1) Penelope Heaton on March 02, 1785 in Morris Co. New Jersey, daughter of David Heaton and Phebe Johnson. He married (2) Sarah Ludlum on August 26, 1850 in Lost Creek Township, Vigo Co. Indiana, daughter of Jacob Ludlum and Mary.

From the Register of Officers of the Continental Army, pg. 58 "Served as a private in Morris Co. New Jersey Militia and for 6 months in New Jersey state troops, enlisting in July 1780. Moved from Morris Co. New Jersey to Wash Co. Pennsylvania, then Ohio. Died Vigo Co. IN."
From the Roster of Soldiers and Patriots of the American Revolution Buried in Indiana, Pg. 123 "Walter Dickerson was born 6-17-1763 Morris Co. NJ. He died 10-8-1855 and buried in the Dickerson Family Burying Ground Lost Creek Township. He married Penelope Heaton 1762-1849."

Dickerson Cemetery is one of the oldest grave sites in Vigo County, located in Lost Creek Township, Indiana. It is located south of Route 40 at the Mann intersection about 1/2 mile on land where the Hulman Links Golf Course is located. Written permission is needed to visit this cemetery.
