| Several Rousseau branches were started out in Canada in the 1600's. Ours can be traced to Antoine Rousseau dit Labonte, who might also have been named Antoine Labonte or Antoine Rousseau when he lived in France, before he came to Canada on the ship 'Vienne'. A resident of Bournand, Poitou,in France, he would have been born anywhere between 1600 and 1629. In 1651, he had a son born in Poitiers (Poitou), also called Antoine, who married Marie Barbe Roanes, after he arrived in Canada.
