Notes for W
ILLIAM C. FINCHER:
When you are studying Southwest Arkansas in the mid 19th Century all roads seem to lead to William S. Fincher and Elizabeth Callaway Fincher. They had ten children and among them, managed to populate that little corner of the world. Their children and grandchildren became merchants, teachers, preachers, farmers and pioneers. They were instrumental in the founding of Mt. Moriah Church in Nevada County, and the family burial plot eventually became the Rosston Cemetery. Many of the sons, son-in-laws and grandsons fought in the Civil War. In short, the Fincher Family History is the history of of our country.
WILLIAM FINCHER, the grandfather of Edward A., was a Methodist minister and farmer in Georgia, whence he moved to Alabama and later to Arkansas, where he continued farming and preaching for some years. Late in life he retired from active labor and made his home with his children. His life was productive of good works, he enjoyed the respect and confidence of a large circle of acquaintances, and he lived to the ripe old age of eighty years. His children were Powell, William, James, Daniel F., John, Bailey, Lydia, Elizabeth, Lucinda and Martha.
William C. Fincher b. cir 1798, NC, m. 6 May 1819 in Jasper Co GA, to Elizabeth Callaway, b. cir 1803, GA. William died 1878, Nevada Co AR, buried: Nevada Co AR. From Paddock page 252.

Notes for E
LIZABETH CALLAWAY:
There is no proof that William S. was her father. This is an assumed, due to the following information:
Jan 9, 1832, William C. Fincher sold property in Henry Co., GA to William Morris. The document is witnessed by William S. Callaway. It was the custom, in those days, for a relative of the wife to sign deeds, etc., to protect her interest. There is no William S. listed in the 1830 Henry Co.., Census, the only William S found for that year were in Del, NC, and TN. He may have been a brother.
