From Stephen C. Ransom source:
Following recv'd from Larry Hamblen on 12/10/98:
George A. Ransome was born, according to his tombstone, on February 22, 1790. His son, Andrew J. Ransom, states in his biography that both his father came from the Chester District, SC. He married Margaret Robins, also from that district, and at an early date moved to Tennessee (Rhea County). George was granted land by the State of Tennessee in April of 1827, Grant No. 14283. On July 24, George sold 100 acres of that grant to William Poston for $50.00. That 100 acres is located on Waldens Ridge on both sides of Beaty Turnpike Road on the southeast side of Piney River. The witnesses of the sale were Blackstone Waterhouse, Eli Ferguson, and Richard Waterhouse. By 1835 George and family had moved on to Marshall County, Alabama, when Indians still inhabited the land. In 1842 the Ransomes moved to Helena, Arkansas, where they lived for 18 months. Finally they moved to Franklin County, Ark., and settled there (1844). In 1846 George enlisted in the Army for the Mexican-American War, but was discharged owning to the quota being filled. He was 56 years old. George also enlisted in the Confederate Army in Feb., 1862 at age 72! He was discharged about six months later because of sickness. George was a farmer. He owned several farms in the White Oak Township of Franklin Co., Ark. He died on August 22, 1882 and is buried in the Henderson Cemetery, an unkept cemetery on Highway 219, just three-tenths of a mile north of the old Wire Road. There's something symbolic about his grave and the two next to him. His grandson, Thomas M. Hamblen, whose father fought for the Union, is buried next to George to the North. Just to the South is the grave of Thomas "Tommie" Ransome, son of George's son, Captain Andrew J. Ransome, who fought for the South! George's wife, Margaret was born in 1798 and died in 1888. Their children: (1) Sevilla, b. Feb. 2, 1819, in TN, m. Edward Barnes from NC, b. Feb. 22, 1812 and was killed by the Pin Indians, June 18, 1863; (2) Julia Ann, b. July 8, 1820, in TN., m. Jesse Nichols in Marshall County, Ala., moved to Franklin County, AR. in 1848; (3) Lucinda, see above; (4) Hannah, b. 1832 in TN., m. ____ Harmon; (5) Margaret, b. 1833 in TN; (6) Andrew J., b. Aug. 6, 1835, see below; (7) Darthula b. 1842 in Ala; and (8) an unknown daughter. Andrew J. Ransome married Elizabeth Haisten (July 20, 1858). In 1861 Andrew enlisted in the State service and participated in the Battle of Oak Hill. After his regiment was disbanded he joined the regular Confederate Army (Feb. 1862) and served until he was captured in May 1863. He remained a prisoner until the end of the war. He enlisted as first lieutenant under Capt. R. C. Tweedy in the Williamson Battalion and then consolidated with McRea's Battalion, and the whole later become the Northwest 15th Arkansas Infantry. In July of 1862 he was promoted to the rank of captain. He fought in the battles at Farmington, Iuka, two days' fight at Corinth, where his sister's brother-in-law, John V. Hamblen, was killed, and at Fort Gibson where he was wounded in the hand and captured. He returned home in August of 1865 and then married Margaret Tweedy, daughter of Capt. R. C. Tweedy, on July 10, 1866. We assume that Elizabeth Haisten, his first wife, died during the Civil War. Andrew was the father of nine children.

from freda smelley fjmpfmp@aol.com 2003-02-19:
I have done alot of research on the nichols line. while tracing jesse nichols and julia ransom i found a will by jesse for his children in franklin co arkansas. it states daughter alice coil, Plemon harman, lula harman. these were the daughters of margaret. to my daughter mary s yarbrough, to son george w nichols, to daughter naoma alice greenwood, to son andrew jackson nichols, to daughters lucinda knox, sarah e taylor and laura a moomau. the only children listed to jessie and julia ann ransom in 1850 census were Margaret 8, Lucinda 6, george 4, mary 1, I have never found and information on any older children. also julia and jesse divorced and i found records in the franklin county arkansas that julia ransom died 1901 has a will but no probate records. It states that she is the daughter of george ransom. Hope this helps but if you have proof of an Elizebeth and child 2 i would be interested in finding out about the information about them. i did find on the internet on the leonhart cagle 1684 by LaMona Phillips that she list a Serena ann nichols born march 16 1840 died 14 Dec 1842. they also list Margaret J Nichols, Lucinda NIchols, George w, Mary Samantha, Sarh Elizebeth, William A., Naomi Alice, Andrew Jackson NIchols, Laura A. Nichols abd a Paralee Arabella Nichols. one last thing, i followed a jesse nichols that was the son of flayl nichols from Severe county tenn. this Jesse nichols married a Tabitha Coulter. they moved to Marshall county al. by 1830. He was there with a male 20-30 years old. I have often wondered if that is our Jesse nichols that married Julia ransom? It shows that Our Jesse was born in Marion county tenn. i am still doing research there. I went to Jasper, Marion county Tenn. in the summer of 2002 but found little information because of fires to the court house. Some people including myself, ha ha, have him confused with Jesse Nichols son of John Nichols and Martha Payne. I believe their Jesse married Sally Fields. and that jesse nichols was the brother of flayl nichols. Anyway i know that Jesse and tabitha Nichols were in Marshall county al. in 1830. there is a land grant that Tabitha obtained in the 185 something. Tabitha Nichols wife of Jesse Nichols, was on the census records of 1850. I found where her Daughter Elizebeth Ann Nichols, Married a Tyra D. Thomas on April 6, 1848 and tha Mary Nichols Married William Thomas on Feb. 24 1843. Tabatha died on Ju;y 1877 in Marshall county al. at the age of 94. Hope this helps, Freda\

[]
Article taken from the same source as article under Andrew Jackson Ransom
Thomas E. Henderson was born in Cass County, Ga., September 7, 1840 and is a son of James and Nancy (Brown) Henderson, natives of the same State. In 1850 the family moved to Seiver County, Ark. After farming four years there they moved to Polk County, where the father died in 1855. The mother died in Franklin County in 1880. Thomas E. grew to maturity in Polk County, on the farm, and during the latter part of 1861 enlisted in the Fourth Arkansas Infantry, Confederate army, under Col. McNair. He served in several minor engagements, and was once taken prisoner, but made his escape in about twenty-four hours. He was discharged for disability about a year after enlisting, and then returned to Polk County, and after his recovery engaged in farming. He was married in that county Aril 11, 1865, to Miss E. D. Ransom a native of Alabama, who was reared in Franklin County, and daughter of George Ransom, now deceased, but formerly of Virginia. After his marriage, Mr. Henderson farmed a year in Polk County, and then in January, 1866, located in White Oak Township, Franklin Co. He moved upon his present farm in 1873. This place he has cleared and enlarged, and it is now one of the nicest farms in the neighborhood. He lives in a good one-story residence, has two tenement houses and comfortable out-buildings, and devotes about three acres to fruit raising. Mr. and Mrs. Henderson have three children: Maggie, wife of Prof. H. A. Nickell; James W. and Mary E. Both our subject and wife are members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, to which all their children belong. Mr. Henderson is an elder in the church and an active worker.
