The Roxby Family Home Page
I am researching the Roxby family from Durham County, England. My fourth great-grandfather, Commander John Roxby, arrived in the United States in 1783 with a convoy of British troop transport ships. He was the master of the ship "Blackett" which was being used to evacuate Loyalists and British solders to Port Roseway, Nova Scotia, Canada after the Revolutionary War. John settled in Shelburne, Nova Scotia where he established a shipping company which he moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1805. The family maintained the business and related cooperage shops until 1853 when they sold out and moved to Shrewsbury, New Jersey. The family lived in the northeast (New Jersey, New York, and Maryland) until 1955, when my father moved to Merritt Island, Florida. |
