Selah D. Seaman published Biographical and Genealogical Record of Captain John Seaman and his descendants on Long Island New York in 1881 and claims:

"Following the line of descent from Nathaniel, the first son of the first Nathaniel, who married Sarah, daughter of Thomas Powell, and they had seven children. viz. Nathaniel, Keziah, Abrose, Stephen, Rachel, William and Thomas, which is the fourth generation."

Unfortunately, there are no sources given for this assertion.

  Notes for William Seaman:
William Seaman went to Pennsylvania. [from Seaman, Mary Thomas, The Seaman Family in America..., (1928).

Helen Vogt a secondary author of SEAMAN-HUNT-WRIGHT GENEALOGY published in 1957 published an update in 1981 entitled DESCENDANTS OF WILLIAM SEAMAN OF WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA [Brownsville, PA: March 1981] In spite of the intervening years Helen Vogt was still not able to establish a definite connection to the lineage of Capt. John Seaman of Hempstead.

Her best guess:  "William Seaman b. ca. 1735-40 prob. in New York state, near Hempstead, Long Island.
mar. ca. 1760-63 to Amy DISBERRY (Disbrow, Disborough, etc.) on whom we have no dates but it is thought she d. in New Jersey before family's migration to PA.)"

"There appear to be several possibilities as to the line of descent from the progenitor of the Seaman family in America, Capt. John Seaman, down to our William Seaman, founder of the Washington Co., PA branch....

[from page 2] "The most likely descent from Capt. John and Martha Moore appears to be as follows:
"Nathaniel Seaman m. 8-9-1695 to Rachel Willis (dau. of Henry and Mary (Peace) Willis - Henry the immigrant to America was one of the earliest Quakers and Nathaniel was an active Quaker.  Rachel d. 8-20-1759 and Nath. d. 10-9-1759 at Westbury, Long Island.
"Nathaniel, son of Nath. and Rachel b. 11-18-1699: m. 12-28-1721 to Sarah Powell dau. of Thomas and Eliz. (Townsend) Powell;  Capt. Thos. Powell b. 1616 and an ancestor, was in the sack and rum trade in Barbados and in 1667 was Huntington, L.I. constable (see "Powells in America"); Nath. d. 6-14-1774.  Nathaniel and Sarah has seven children: 1)Nathaniel 2) Kesia 3) Ambrose 4) Stephen 5) Rachel 6) William "went to Pa." (this line not carried out in any known source) 7) Thomas.
"A lesser possibility of descent concerns Jonathan b. 1647 to Capt. John and Elizabeth Strickland;  he m. Jane and they had Jonathan, Jr. m. Elizabeth Denton and d. 1755:  the other son was Joseph who m. Nellie Cooper.  Jonathan and Joseph emigrated to Kakiat with many other Long Island families and settled in West New Hempstead.  Tappan church records as given in the supplement to Cole's "History of Rockland Co., New York" indicate that Jonathan, Jr. had Jacomiah, Amy (bapt. 8-3-1720) and Jonathan III bapt. 7-3-1722.  This Jonathan III and his wife, Elizabeth Baldwin, with other relatives, migrated to Frederick Co., Va ca. 1737 and he d. there intestate 1743.
"The Jonah Seaman of (W.) Va. whose records are often confused with those of William Seaman's son, Jonas, was a son of Jonathan III.  We have considered the possibility that Jonathan III may have been a brother of our William, but this is not borne out in the light of records which show only the William who "went to Pa." among Capt. John descendants of the proper age."

"It has been established by tax and Revolutionary War records that William Seaman resided in Hopewell, NJ from at least 1778 to 1785/6.  Many records have been destroyed over the years and we have been able to reconstruct from only what is now available."

+ 309 vi.   Thomas Seaman, born July 4, 1734; died Unknown.
+ 310 vii.   Nathaniel Seaman, born 1724; died November 21, 1816.
