I am researching the RUCKELSHAUSEN family, which originated from the upper region of Hesse in Germany. According to Archives of Hessian History, the village of Rogkelshusen was part of the clerical area of Kirtorf, near Alsfeld. There is every reason to believe, that the ancestors of the present people with the last
name " Ruckelshausen " came from the small village of "Rogkelshusen " near Kirtorf in the Vogelsberg region. Some migrated the to the village of Appenrod and the surrounding areas between mid 1400 and 1574, where the present day lineage of
the authorís family originated. Some migrated to the Darmstadt- Pfungstadt-Wallerstaedten area on the Rhein. The present day Ruckelshausen Family can be found in Germany, Austria, North America and South America.
The name Ruckelshausen has seen many changes in spelling, such as, Rockelshausen, Ruckershaussen, Ruckelshaussen, Ruckelshauss, Ruckelshaus, etc. Often, the mistakes were made centuries ago by unskilled clerks, who kept the tax and church records up to date.
Any information and contribution to my research would be greatly appreciated.
