A few years ago our family knew nothing about our heritage except speculation, and now we're putting together the puzzle one piece at a time. The consensus among fellow genealogy researchers in my line is that the McCalls of western NC, upstates GA and SC come from either the "Robert" line or the "Samuel" line, and there is also an unknown third possibility. It is believed, although not proven, that our oldest known relative, Robert, and Samuel MAY have been brothers who first brought our line to this country, but as far as I know that is only speculation, NOT fact, and can only serve to separate the two known groups of McCalls at this point. Tracking down distant relatives and obtaining military records from the National Archives were my biggest sources of information, but there's always more to learn. If you can add (or correct) ANYTHING, or if you are a missing part of my puzzle PLEASE call or email me. I would love to hear from you. Anita Lee Rudd |
