Howdy! Kent Ruffin is an 11th generation American Ruffin. Our family got its start in America in 1635 when William Ruffin sailed from Scotland to Jamestowne aboard the "Assurance."
Direct descendants include Edmund Ruffin, the man who fired the first shot of the Civil War upon Fort Sumter, and Thomas Ruffin, a well respected Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court and whom the town of Ruffin, NC is named after.
