* ANCESTORS OF ROBERT RUFFINS*

Updated September 6, 2000

I am researching the Filkins family. As far as I know, my great-great-great-grandfather's name was Jonathan Filkins. He married a woman named Jane and lived in New York. They had the following children: Elmer (m: Roxie ?), Delia (m: Dwight ?), Almira (m:John Sellers), Morgan (m: Mary Webb), Amanda (m:Augustus Fox), Permilla (m:William Peck), Julia (never married), David (m:Jemina Peck), and Abraham (m:Martha Brewer). I think that Jonathan died and Jane lived with her daughter Amanda and her husband (about 1840). Abraham and several other family members came to Michigan in the early 1840's. Morgan, Elmer, Amanda, and David stayed in New York.
I am also researching the Ruffins/Pitte/Bucholz/Dosey/Halke families. The Ruffins name was supposedly changed from Ruffino by my grandfather when he came to the USA somewhere around 1917. My grandfather Louis Ruffins was born in Geneva, Switzerland on October 18, 1897. His parents names were Frank Ruffins and Mary Pitte (names were Americanized by my grandfather on his american documents). My grandfather claimed to be Italian even though he was born in Switzerland. He came to America by himself about 1917. He lived in Detroit, MI for a while, then married Louisa Bertha Marie Bucholz and moved to Ann Arbor, MI. I know nothing about his family and early life. Louisa Bertha Marie Bucholz's (b:Aug. 6, 1894 in Ann Arbor, MI, d:Aug. 22, 1958 in Ypsilanti, MI) parents were named Carl (Charles) Bucholz and Minnie Dosey. Carl Bucholz's parents were name Charles Bucholz and Millie Halke. Minnie Dosey's father's name was Charles Dosey.

I am also researching the Landon/Clark/Wright/Stewart families. My great-great-grandfather's name was Frederick Landon. He was from Conn. Both his father's and his grandfather's names were Eratus (also from Conn). Fred married Jane Ruth Clark (b: Jan. 4, 1829, d: April 25, 1911 in Dundee, MI) on August 20, 1949 in Southport, New York . Her father's name was Pardon Clark (I think). Fred and Jane moved to Dundee, MI after 1850. Fred died in the Civil Was Their children's names were: Adelaide, Sarah Elizabeth (m:Oscar William Hunt), George Owen (m: Samantha C. Hammon and later Sarah Ellen Wright), Alice Philina (m:William F. Lafler), Ida May (died at age 3), and Andrew C. (died at age 2). Sarah Ellen Wright's parents were named John Wright and Lucy Stewart.
