Dear Family and Friends, Josiah F. "Fran" Rummel passed away on Monday, November 11, 2002 at his residence in Missoula, MT. Memorial services were held at the First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Connie Sidebottom officiating. Following Fran's wishes, Fran will always be overlooking his family at the University of Montana. Fran was born in Lake Mills, Iowa. He became a respected educator and writer. His works included, "The Skitso Scholar's Syllabus," a book of educational sense and non-sense. As an educator and teacher, Fran and his family traveled extensively. His travels included Nepal, Egypt, Italy, Libya and Cambodia. In 1967, he was hired as the dean of the School of Education at the University of Montana and he held that position until retirement in 1976. Fran was married in 1934 to his beloved Margaret Charrie Cooper. They shared a wonderful life together and a marriage of 68 years. They have two sons, six grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. The family suggests remembrances to the Good Samaritan Fund, First United Methodist Church, 300 E. Main St., Missoula MT 59802. Fran's work will not be forgotten. Family members and friends who worked with Fran to "root out" their ancestors are welcome to contact Fran's grand-daughter. The family has a great deal of Fran's research to "root" through, but we hope to make certain his work will continue and to be shared.
