In the Loudon County, Virginia Taxpayers List for 1782 - 1787, there is listed Personal Property -- Andrew Rummins in 1782, Andrew Rhunemus in 1783, and Andrew Runimus in 1784. In Kentucky the name has been spelled Rummings/Rumings/Rummans/Rumons/Rummins/Rummens. The name has its own evolving history. In Missouri and Texas some of the family dropped the second "M", while others kept it, even splitting fathers and sons in the way the name was spelled. Andrew Jackson Rumans added the second "M" back into the name after a dispute with some of his kin, and his descendants have been spelling it that way ever since.
