SCOTTISH PHOTOS: Our family is descended from John Russel and Margaret McAlpine who lived in the parish of Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire, Scotland. We have photograph albums from TWO of their 9 children who emigrated to Ontario Canada: John Russell (1797-1875) and his wife Janet Smillie (1802-1894) who arrived in 1834, and Robert Russell Sr (1808-1881) and his wife Grace Brownlie (1806-1894) who arrived later in 1867. Branches of both families lived in Carluke, Ancaster, Hamilton, Toronto and Bobcaygeon. A third sibling, Jane Russel (1805-1885) and her husband Robert Gray Sr (1807-1896) arrived in Lambton County Ontario in 1854 and settled near Alvinston. Another sibling was George Russell who married Elizabeth George. Their son, George Russell died in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, USA, in 1916. Most of these Scottish photos were taken between 1850 and 1900, the extended family sir names being: RUSSEL/RUSSELL, SMILLIE/SMELLIE, McALPINE, TODD, CHALMERS, GRAY, GEORGE, MARTIN, DOCKERTY, CROMB, BROWNLIE/BROWNLEE, CURRIE, EASON, HAMILTON. Please feel free to contact us if you recognise a photo or wish to make enquiries and share information about any branch of the family.
