He married MARTHA SPERRY Mar 11, 1706/07 in Sperry Farms, West Rock, New Haven, CT, daughter of RICHARD SPERRY and MARTHA MANSFIELD. She was born Jan 05, 1684/85 in New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut, and died 1758 in New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut.

CONNECTION of William to his father, John, and therfore to his grandfather, Ralph is predicated on William Russell's Deed of Gift to his son, Nicholas,................. " his undivided right to land lying on Two Mile River, Bristol County, Massachusetts, shared with John Russell, Jr., and Joseph Russell, formerly belonging to his father John Russell". The only Russell land on Two Mile Creek that was granted by Taunton Town to Ralph Russell in 1652, for setting up an iron works there but apparently never occupied by him.\\

" I, Samuel Alling of New York, blacksmith, for 6 [pounds]....paid by William Russell of New Haven....grant....a certain piece of land within the limits of New Haven being Third Division land bounded by the highway west and eastward, and land of John Allings northward and land of Benjamin Peck's southward, in quantity eight acres... to William Russell.... this 21st day of May 1706 in the 5th year of the Reign of our Sovereign Ann of England and Queen."

" Daniel Johnson of New Haven for a sum of money already paid by William Russell of New Haven, do make over a certain piece of land....in the limits of New Haven in ye town plott, it bring part of a home lott bounded as followeth: westward by the street, eastward by land of John Watson, northward by my own land and southward by land of Sergt. Daniell Hotchkiss, containing... ten rods of land about two rods in width, about five rods in length...June 20, 1711."

" I, William Russell, of the Town and Country of New Haven. Free Mason, being advanced in years.... I give to my now wife Martha Russell....during her life my Dwelling House, Barn, and Orchard, and all my farm that I now possess with that lott I bought of Mr. Winston's heirs. I give to my son Nicholas Russell besides what I have already given him....all my right in ye common individed land in ye bound of New Haven. I give my son John Russell my Fifth Division lot and ye lot I Bought of Moses Brockett, about 18 or 20 acres. I give to my son Daniel Russell my Sixth Division lot joining to Capt. Thompson's lot on the east side of the West Rock and one acre and one quarter of land by John Sperry's land called sequestered land, and my little house at Town after my wife's decease, and 10 worth of movable estate when he shall come of age. I give my son William Russell all my land that I bought of the Heir of Mr. John Winston and my land joining to it that doth lye on the west side of ye road. I give to my son Richard Russell my house, barn, and ye lot that doth belong to it, and mt house and land on ye east side of ye side of ye highway that did belong to Winston's lot. I give to my two daughters Martha Russell and Esther Russell all my movable estate to be equally divided between them after my wife's decease. I appoint my beloved wife Martha Russell executrix."\

"Martha Russell, executrix, nominated in ye last will and testament of William Russell, late of New Haven, does exhibit an instrument into Court which was received and approved for record, said. Executrix before ye Court accepted ye Trust." Probated Aug. 6, 1739

WILLIAM and Martha Russell lived at Sperry Farms, West Rock, in New Haven Colony, which was later in or close to that part set off as Woodbridge. William's grave is in Cheshire, which was then in New Haven, Connecticut
