Death of Mrs. Robert Webster

Mrs. Robert Webster, the beloved wife of Robert Webster, formerly of this city, but now of Dawson, passed away at the Dawson hospital at Dawson, NM, at 8:55 Wednesday night after an illness of four days following an operation for appendicitis. The operation was pronounced a success and Mrs. Webster seemed on the safe road to recovery until Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock when she took a change for the worse and began sinking rapidly. It was seen by the physicians and nurses, who did not leave her bedside from 1 o'clock until the end, that death was approaching rapidly and relatives of the unfortunate woman were quickly notified. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Cally, Mrs. J. M. McCallister and Mrs. J. R. Gillespie, sisters, were soon at her bedside and remained with her to the end.
The body was brought to Springer Thursday morning and was met at the depot by the local Rebekah Lodge, Dr. L. L. Cahill, who conducted the funeral, and many friends who escorted the remains to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Calley. The funeral was held from the Methodist church Friday afternoon, the Rev. Lockridge performing a very impressive service. A large number of friends and relatives attended the funeral and followed the remains to its last resting place, the Springer cemetery. The Springer Rebekah Lodge had charge of the funeral and went to the church and cemetry in a body.
Cordelia Elizabeth Calley-Webster was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Calley of this city and grew to womanhood in Springer. She was born in Brown county in Texas on the 24th day of December 1883. She came to New Mexico in the year of 1888 when she was but five years of age. She was united in marriage to Robert Webster at Colmor, NM on December 25, 1901. To this union five children were born, Gladys, who has preceded the mother to the grave, Ernest, Leslie, Opal and Cordelia, who survive their mother to consol and comfort their father and grandparents and share with them the grief and sorrow of her untimely death.
The Times joins the many friends and the relatives of the deceased in sending its heartfelt sympathy.
