Descendants of MacAlpin

Generation No. 2

      2. Kenneth2 MacAlpinI, lst King of Scotland (MacAlpin1)1 was born 810, and died February 06, 858/59 in Iona, Scotland.

Notes for Kenneth MacAlpinI, lst King of Scotland:
During the Period when the English kingdoms of the Heptarchy were struggling with one another for supremacy, there was a similar struggle in Scotland between the Picts, Scots and Angles. The Angles were crushed by the Picts in 685, who were in turn defeated by the Scots under Kenneth MacAlpin in 843. Kenneth then became the first King of Scotland, from whom all kings of Scotland were descended. Kenneth's immediate successors had to deal with continuous Viking raids, as well as aggravation from England. But in 1018 Malcolm II routed a huge Viking and English army, allowing him to bring Lothian and then Strathclyde into the kingdom and complete the unification of Scotland.

843 Kenneth MacAlpin, King of the Scots, defeats the Picts and unites Scotland north of the River Forth.

Reigned 843-859. He is succeeded by his brother Donald I.
